Job application tracker
Log each application in one line, update the status as you hear back, and see which ones are due a follow-up. It saves in this browser; export a CSV anytime.
Nothing you type here is uploaded or stored by Onward Scout; the tool runs entirely in your browser.
A job application tracker is a simple list of every application with its date, status and next step, so nothing slips and you know who to follow up with. The tracker above runs in your browser, flags applications that are due a follow-up, and exports to a spreadsheet.
What should a job application tracker include?
In short
Company, role, date applied, status, next step and a link to the posting. Those six columns answer the only questions that matter during a search: what did I send, where does it stand, and what do I do next?
We keep the tracker deliberately small. Every extra column is one more thing to update, and trackers die when updating them feels like work. Statuses run in pipeline order: Applied, Screen, Interview, Final round, Offer, plus Rejected, No response and Withdrawn.

Why track job applications at all?
In short
Because silence is the default and memory is unreliable. Without a list, you forget when you applied, miss the right moment to follow up and repeat mistakes across applications. A tracker turns a vague search into a pipeline you can manage.
Silence is common: 61% of job seekers in Greenhouse's 2024 survey said they had been ghosted after an interview[Greenhouse, 2024]. Searches also run long. In September 2026, the long-term unemployed made up 27.1% of all unemployed people in the US[BLS, Oct 2026], so plan for a search measured in months, not days.
How does this tracker decide when to follow up?
In short
Any application still marked "Applied" after seven days gets a red "Follow up" flag. That is about one working week, the usual point to send one short follow-up email to a named contact.
When a row turns red, use our job application follow-up calculator to time the email, or the follow-up email after an interview generator if you have already interviewed.

Should you use a spreadsheet or a tracker tool?
In short
Whichever you will actually keep updated. Spreadsheets are flexible but easy to abandon; this tracker is faster for daily updates and exports to a spreadsheet whenever you want one. Many people use both: the tracker daily, the CSV for a weekly review.
Your response rate is the number to watch. If fewer than one in ten applications gets a reply after a few weeks, change what you send, not how much you send; our applications-per-day calculator shows how much a better interview rate saves you. Volume alone is a crowded game: LinkedIn reports about 8,200 job applications every minute[LinkedIn newsroom].
Frequently asked questions
Where is my tracker data stored?
Only in this browser, on this device. Nothing is uploaded. Export a CSV regularly if you want a backup or to move it to another computer.
Can I use the tracker in Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. Export a CSV and open it in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets. To import a CSV, use columns such as Company, Role, Applied and Status, with Applied dates as YYYY-MM-DD; spreadsheet apps sometimes rewrite dates, so check that column before you re-import.
What columns should a job application tracker have?
Company, role, date applied, status, next step and link at minimum. Add contact name and notes if you network a lot. More columns rarely get filled in.
How many applications should I track at once?
As many as you actively follow up on. If a row has been silent past two follow-ups, mark it No response and stop thinking about it.
A tracker for every application Onward Scout prepares
Onward Scout logs every application it prepares, sorts the replies you forward to it or record with one tap, and shows what needs your attention next. No spreadsheet to maintain.
Nothing is submitted without your tap. Logins, CAPTCHAs, payments and interviews stay with you.
