Terms of service

Last updated

The short version

  • Onward Scout finds opportunities and prepares applications for you. It submits applications and sends emails in your name only after your confirmation, or under a standing authorization you set yourself.
  • You’re responsible for checking that what you approve is true. We never invent facts, and we flag anything we can’t source.
  • We can’t guarantee outcomes: the organisations you apply to decide.
  • Credits are used when something is submitted, and failed submissions never use one. Refunds follow the refund policy.
  • If you live somewhere with consumer protection laws, you keep them.

These terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Onward Scout (“we”, “us”) about your use of onwardscout.com, the Onward Scout app and related services. By creating an account or using the service you accept them, together with our privacy policy, acceptable use policy and refund policy.

Who can use Onward Scout

You must be at least 13. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you may use the service only with a parent or guardian who agrees to these terms for you; we ask for their email, and outreach email is not available to you.

You use the service for yourself. Using it for someone else requires their own account or their documented consent (see the acceptable use policy).

Your account

You sign in with your email address and a one-time code. Keep access to that mailbox secure: anyone who can read it can sign in as you. Tell us at contact@onwardscout.com if you think someone else has used your account.

Keep the information in your account accurate. One person per account.

What the service does — and doesn’t

We build a profile from your documents, find and rank opportunities, prepare applications and documents, submit them through the channels described on How it works, send the emails you approve and follow up.

Some steps stay with you: creating accounts and logging in to other sites, CAPTCHAs and two-factor codes, payments, signatures, identity documents, interviews and tests. When a platform forbids automation or needs your login, we prepare a handoff and you submit it yourself.

We are not an employment agency, recruiter, investment adviser, broker, admissions consultant, immigration adviser or law firm, and nothing in the service is legal, financial or immigration advice.

Opportunity information comes from public sources and can change or be wrong. Check the official page before relying on a deadline, an amount or an eligibility rule; when we don’t know, we say “check the official page”.

Your authorization to act on your behalf

You authorize Onward Scout to act as your agent, on your instructions, to:

  • prepare applications, documents and emails from your profile;
  • submit an application to an opportunity’s official form or system, including uploading the documents you approved, after you confirm that application;
  • send an email from your connected Gmail account after you approve that email;
  • send follow-ups or submit applications in a category only where you have switched on a standing authorization for it in Settings.

This authorization does not cover creating accounts for you, logging in as you, solving CAPTCHAs, making payments or signing anything — we never do those things. We tick a third party’s consent or terms box only when you have answered that very box yourself in Onward Scout for that application; we never accept terms you haven’t seen.

You can withdraw a standing authorization or disconnect Gmail at any time in the app. That stops future actions, not ones already completed. For every submission we keep a record of what you approved and when.

Accuracy of what you approve

Every fact we use traces to your documents or your confirmations, and we flag claims we can’t source. But you know your history best: check each application or email before you approve it. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you approve and send, and you must not approve anything false or misleading or ask us to add anything untrue.

If you notice an error after a submission, tell the organisation directly; we will help you prepare the correction.

No guarantee of outcomes

Decisions belong to the organisations you apply to and the people you contact. We don’t guarantee replies, interviews, offers, admissions, funding, publication, prizes or any other result, or that an opportunity is still open.

We work hard to submit successfully, but third-party sites change, go down or block automated access. When a submission fails, the credit is returned and the application is shown to you with the next step.

Third-party platforms and services

Applications go to sites and systems we don’t control, each with its own terms. You are responsible for following them with your own accounts. We don’t automate platforms that forbid it, and we may decline to submit somewhere if doing so would break that platform’s rules.

The service relies on providers such as Clerk, Stripe, Google and Anthropic (see the privacy policy). Their availability is outside our control.

Your content

You keep ownership of everything you upload and everything we draft for you. You give us a limited licence to store, process, adapt and transmit that content only to provide the service to you — including sending it to the organisations and people you approve. We don’t use your content to train AI models, and we don’t publish it.

You confirm that you have the right to upload what you upload, including any information about other people in it.

Acceptable use

You agree to follow our acceptable use policy. In short: no false information, no impersonation, no spam, no applying for someone else without their consent, and no scraping of or attacks on our service.

Credits, plans and billing

  • One credit is one application submitted for you (through any channel, including a handoff you confirm) or one outreach email to a new contact. Profile, matching, previews, drafts, follow-ups and practice applications are free.
  • A credit is reserved when you confirm a submission, spent when it is submitted, and returned if the submission fails, you withdraw it or it expires first.
  • New accounts receive 3 free credits, valid for 60 days. Free credits have no cash value.
  • Pro costs $29 per month for 60 credits, billed monthly in advance until you cancel. Its credits stay usable for 30 days after each billing month. You can cancel at any time and keep Pro until the end of the paid period.
  • Credit packs are one-time purchases (10 credits for $9, 40 credits for $29); their credits are valid for 180 days.
  • Prices are in US dollars. We may change prices for future billing periods and will tell you before a change affects your subscription.
  • Payments are processed by Stripe. Refunds follow our refund policy. If a payment is disputed, the credits from it are paused until the dispute is settled.

Changes to the service

Onward Scout is in early access and will change. We may add, change or remove features. If we remove something you paid for, or stop the service altogether, we will give you reasonable notice and refund unused purchased credits.

Suspension and termination

You can stop using Onward Scout and delete your account at any time in Settings.

We may pause submissions or outreach, or suspend or close an account, if it breaks these terms or the acceptable use policy, puts other people or the service at risk, or if the law requires it. Where reasonable, we will tell you why and give you a chance to fix it first. If we close your account without a breach on your part, we refund unused purchased credits.

Sections that by their nature should continue — ownership, liability, disputes — survive termination.

Disclaimers

We provide the service with care, but “as is” and “as available”, to the extent the law allows. We don’t promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that opportunity information is complete or current. Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that can’t be limited by contract.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows: we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost opportunities, lost profits or the decisions of third parties; and our total liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US$50.

This doesn’t limit liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that can’t be limited by law.

Governing law and disputes

These terms don’t take away the protections you have under the laws of the country where you live. If you are a consumer, the mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence apply, and you can bring a claim in the courts where you live.

If something goes wrong, please start by writing to contact@onwardscout.com with a description of the problem. We will try to resolve it within 30 days before either of us takes it further.

Changes to these terms

We update the date at the top whenever these terms change. If a change materially affects your rights, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it applies to you. If you don’t agree, you can close your account before then.
