This free cover letter generator builds the core of a one-page letter, about 100 words, from five things: the role, why this company, what the job needs most and two of your results. Grow it to 250–400 words with details only you know. No sign-up, nothing uploaded, and nothing invented: every sentence comes from facts you typed.
How does this cover letter generator work?
In short
You enter the job's main need and your proof for it; the generator places them into tested letter structures in three tones: confident, warm and formal. Because it only uses your facts, the letter cannot claim experience you do not have.
That is a deliberate choice. Many AI writers produce fluent letters full of claims the applicant never made, which falls apart in the first interview question. Our view is that a letter is evidence, not prose; the generator's job is to put your evidence in the right order.

What makes a cover letter worth reading?
In short
It names what the job needs in the employer's own words, proves you have done it with a result, and gives one specific reason you want this company. Three paragraphs that do those three things beat a page of adjectives.
Hiring managers do read them. In a 2022 Resume Genius survey of 625 US hiring managers, 83% said they read the majority of cover letters they receive[Resume Genius survey, 2022], and 49% said a strong letter could get an otherwise weak candidate an interview[Resume Genius survey, 2022]. It is a résumé company's poll, so treat the exact numbers with care, but the direction is consistent across surveys.
How long should a generated cover letter be?
In short
One page, three or four paragraphs, roughly 250 to 400 words. The generator writes a tight core of about 100 words on purpose; grow it to full length with the context and details only you know, then check it with the length checker.
University career centers give the same advice; Young Harris College's guide, for example, says a cover letter should always be only one page long with 3-4 paragraphs plus a header, greeting and sign-off[Young Harris College career guide]. Check your draft with our cover letter length checker.

How do you tailor the letter to each job?
In short
Change two inputs every time: the company reason and the job's main need. Take the need from the posting's first responsibilities in the employer's key words, written as a noun phrase: "Manage inbound freight" becomes "tighter control of inbound freight costs". Then pick the result of yours that answers it best.
Most large employers screen applications in software before a person reads them: Jobscan found an applicant tracking system at 97.4% of Fortune 500 companies[Jobscan, 2026]. Matching the posting's language helps both the software and the human after it. To find that language fast, use our résumé keyword matcher; for a stronger first sentence, try the cover letter opening builder.
Frequently asked questions
Is this cover letter generator really free?
Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no account and never uploads what you type. Generate as many versions as you like.
Is this an AI cover letter generator?
No. It assembles your own facts into proven letter structures, so it cannot invent experience you do not have. That is a feature: every sentence is something you can defend in an interview.
Can I use the same generated letter for several jobs?
Change at least the company reason and the job's main need for each application. Those two inputs are what make a letter read as written for that job.
How do I make a generated cover letter sound like me?
Read it aloud and rewrite any sentence you would not say. Keep the structure and the numbers; change the words.
